One week, three amazing performances!
What an amazing week! It’s festival week in Crystal Palace, and the appropriately-named Palace Acappella has made its full local debut in fine style.
Three months ago, most of our members had never met or sung together before. And now, in the space of a week, we’ve performed a full repertoire three times including opening the Crystal Palace Festival!
Performance Number One came on Tuesday night (11th June). We sang at the Crystal Palace Festival opening party at the Best Western Hotel, entertaining local MPs, festival sponsors and volunteers with a sneak preview of some of our repertoire for the main festival performance. The atmosphere was good, the canapes were very good, and the gathered audience was pretty impressed with our offering.
Our 'warm-up' performance in Decorum
Performance Number Two came on the morning of the festival itself, Saturday 15th. We ‘warmed-up’ with an informal performance in the lovely Decorum homewares boutique on Westow Hill, where curious passers-by stopped to hear us sing and buy a coffee. Really it was anything but a ‘warm-up’; Palace Acappella turned on full voice to entertain the delighted locals with a mini-concert on the triangle.
Hot on the heels of our ‘warm up’ in Decorum, we set off straightaway for the Crystal Palace Festival and Performance Number Three! The big one. The festival is a really well-organised operation and we were whisked straight through for a sound-check. As our audience entered the park and found themselves a nice spot to listen, the sun thankfully continued to show itself. And then we took to the stage to open the festival!
Everyone was up for it and we put in our best performance to date. We worked our way with passion (and volume) through choir favourites True Colours, Barbara Ann, Wild Mountain Thyme, The Lion Sleeps, Blue Moon and Pastime with Good Company, we had the most amazing time. The occasion really brought out the best in all our singers, who loved being part of the festival and performing on an outdoor stage.
It was brilliant experience from start to finish….except we weren’t finished just yet! A week or so before the festival, we were approached by rap artist Jay Snaggz who invited us to join him onstage at the festival as backing for his anthem ‘Family’. How could we turn down such an awesome opportunity? So after a quick costume-change, we were ready to join Jay onstage, to make his final number really epic. And it really was.
Three months of hard work came brilliantly to fruition in one day. Hopefully, we’ll be back next year….why not come and join us?

We came, we sang, they ran!
Palace Acappella performed for the very first time this week!
On Wednesday 15th May, twenty people that just seven weeks ago had never sung together before entertained the runners at Run Through’s Crystal Palace Chase the Sun event.
From the starting whistle until the very last runner came in, we belted out choir favourites including Barbara Ann, True Colours and Blue Moon, putting a spring in the step of runners on the home strait. We sang, we cheered, we shooed a couple of dogs away, we waved maracas and bells around, and we had a marvellous time.
We also discovered that we have stamina! After singing almost continuously for two hours, the energy continued to escalate and a fabulous dance-off ensued during one of our most upbeat numbers.
We can’t wait for our second performance at the Crystal Palace Festival on Saturday 15th June. Come along and hear us!

Happy World Voice Day!
This Tuesday was our third Palace Acappella session and it just so happened to be World Voice Day!
We celebrated in fine style by raising the roof with our singing. Here’s a little clip of our adventurous choir singing their hearts out to remind us of the incredible form of expression we carry around with us every day.
New members are welcome anytime!
Join us to discover the joys of singing, and the benefits to your health, happiness and expression.

Oh what a night!
Palace Acappella launched with a fabulous turnout at the Upper Norwood Library Hub this Tuesday night. We were delighted with the group of 25 eager locals who sang their hearts out and achieved some marvellous four-part harmonies. Signs of very good things to come…
We started with a few rounds to get the voices and the spirits warmed up, and then sampled three different pieces that may go on to be part of our repertoire. And everyone rose to the challenge splendidly.
It was a lively evening with a real sense of community. Nice to meet so many lovely people and finish the evening with a social in the Faber Fox pub. There were smiles all around, and not just because of the beverages – singing is one of the best mood boosts and we always want people to leave feeling happy!

And we’re off!
We've been busy! After a few months of planning, our new choir is finally coming together. We now have a name, and a rehearsal venue; the coffee shop at Upper Norwood Library Hub will be our home on Tuesday nights from 7pm.
And now we’re ready to invite people to join us! A few weeks ago, we got some friends together in our front room to try out songs for the choir. Look out for videos across our social media pages for a sneak peek at some of the songs we might be singing in Palace Acappella.
We're also making plans for the choir's first public performances. Come along to a session and we'll tell you more...
